Cooler air rushed in and spread across the area last night, with cool 40s and 50s in place to greet us this morning. Northerly winds have let up a little, but this cool and dry airflow will keep us cool throughout the day. We’ll still feel comfortable under plenty of sunshine, with temperatures topping out in the upper 60s and lower 70s. The cold front that brought this cooler air had one other good side effect; it finally cleared out most of the haze lingering in the skies for days. Clear skies are set to continue into tonight, and with winds really calming down, it will feel chilly. Lows tonight are expected to fall into the 40s, with the DC metro being a slightly warmer exception in the lower 50s.
Beautiful, sunny conditions will also greet us tomorrow, with another afternoon of 70s on tap. High pressure will stay anchored to our north into the holiday weekend and remain the primary influence on our weather conditions through Memorial Day. With how strong the ridge will be, a developing storm system to our south will have difficulty breaking into the area with some rainfall. Recent forecast trends continue to favor a totally dry day Saturday, and rain chances Sunday continue to drop lower and lower. A few stray showers across our southern counties can’t be totally ruled out, but the large majority of the area will stay totally dry under some added cloud cover through Sunday night.
After chipping away for two days, this coastal storm system should finally be able to nudge closer to us by Memorial Day. By this point, it will have weakened quite a bit, though, so at best, we’ll only see spotty showers to wrap up the holiday weekend. A few of these spotty showers could hang on into Tuesday, followed up by even more dry weather into the end of next week. During this time, temperatures are going to rise, and with a southerly wind, possible humidity levels could finally rise as well. It’s likely that it will quickly start feeling like summer as we begin the month of June, which is perfect timing and rather fitting.
Have a great rest of your Thursday!
